Like a vine or slender branch, bending with circumstances and growing on the support around it.

The Day Master is the heavenly stem of your day pillar and the centre of a BaZi chart: every other character is read as a relationship to it. Yi appears as a Day Master in 乙丑, 乙亥, 乙酉, 乙未, 乙巳 and 乙卯, one for each branch it can sit on.

Nature

Yi is flexible wood: the creeper, the reed, the hedgerow. It survives by reading the situation and adapting rather than by force. This Day Master is often underestimated because it rarely announces itself; the growth happens quietly, around obstacles, and is already far along before anyone notices.

Strengths

Adaptability, diplomacy, and a persistence that does not look like persistence from the outside.

Where it strains

Over-accommodation. Yi can bend so consistently that it discovers the boundary only after resentment has set.

Work and vocation

Design, editing, counselling, brand work, operations, or any craft where patience compounds.

Relationships

Warm and accommodating, with a strong preference for harmony. Practise stating a preference while it is still small.

The six Yi day pillars

A Day Master meets six different branches across the sixty-year cycle. Each pairing changes the tone of the stem, so read the one that matches your birth day.

You do not need to work it out by hand. Enter your birth date, time and place, and the calculator returns all four pillars along with your Day Master and five-element balance.
