About EastCosmic

An ancient map, read in a modern way

We treat Eastern metaphysics as a language of time and relationship — neither mystified nor flattened. Eight images sketch how we read it, and how we hope to read you.

01

All things emerge from the Dao

道生万物,万法同源
All things emerge from the Dao
01 / 08

The Daodejing says the Dao gives rise to one, one to two, two to three, and three to all things. BaZi does not invent a separate world; it sets this same order of generation inside the moment you were born. To read a chart is first to read the nature it follows.

02

Read the timing, see the tendency

观时知机,顺承天时
Read the timing, see the tendency
02 / 08

The ancients watched shadows, measured solar terms and marked time with gnomon and clepsydra. Timing is not a command but a rhythm: growth in spring, expansion in summer, harvest in autumn, rest in winter. To see the moment is to act when action fits, and to let yourself wait when it does not.

03

Bazi: the imprint of your birth

干支立命,八字为契
Bazi: the imprint of your birth
03 / 08

Year, month, day and hour each take a stem and a branch. Four pillars hold up the chart, eight characters in all — a compact contract with time that records both your gifts and the lessons you will spend a life learning.

04

The circulation of qi

五行周流,气有消长
The circulation of qi
04 / 08

Wood feeds fire, fire makes earth, earth bears metal, metal carries water, and water returns to wood. The five elements are not five labels but a circle of mutual support. When a chart says strong or weak, it describes when this qi gathers and when it withdraws — not who is better.

05

Fortune is a sign, not a verdict

吉凶唯象,非是定数
Fortune is a sign, not a verdict
05 / 08

A bronze mirror shows the face; a hexagram shows the situation. Fortune and misfortune are mostly reminders — whether this moment is open or hazardous. They put the risk in front of you; they cannot take the step for you.

06

Ming is given, yun is shaped

命禀于天,运成于己
Ming is given, yun is shaped
06 / 08

Ming is the hand you were dealt at birth; yun is how you play it, year after year. The hand does not change. The playing does. Knowing your fate is not about surrender — it is about knowing where to put your strength.

07

Respect the Dao, do not cling to technique

心存敬畏,不执术数
Respect the Dao, do not cling to technique
07 / 08

Incense rises from the censer and thins into air, the way every method is finally set down. Technique is a raft: once you reach the far bank, you do not carry it on your back. Reverence admits the limits of what we can know; letting go leaves room to live.

08

Illumination through the I Ching

以易明心,渡己渡人
Illumination through the I Ching
08 / 08

Yi means change. Reading the I Ching is not a search for an answer that never moves; it is learning to see yourself clearly inside change. Cross the river first — then there is strength left to turn back and ferry someone else.

The clearest way to know the system is to see your own chart in it.
