Like a nearby lamp: its light gathers close and needs oil and shelter to keep the flame.
The Day Master is the heavenly stem of your day pillar and the centre of a BaZi chart: every other character is read as a relationship to it. Ding appears as a Day Master in 丁卯, 丁丑, 丁亥, 丁酉, 丁未 and 丁巳, one for each branch it can sit on.
Nature
Ding is focused, intimate fire — candlelight rather than sunlight. It works in a small radius and works well there. This Day Master notices detail, remembers what people said, and is far more interested in depth with a few people than breadth with many. Its flame is steady but needs protecting from wind.
Strengths
Attention, discernment, and the ability to make one person feel precisely seen.
Where it strains
Sensitivity that turns inward. Ding can read a tone accurately and then replay it for three days.
Work and vocation
Writing, editing, design, therapy, research, or any craft where accuracy is the product.
Relationships
Attentive and selective. Your care shows in accuracy; say the warm part too, not only the correction.
The six Ding day pillars
A Day Master meets six different branches across the sixty-year cycle. Each pairing changes the tone of the stem, so read the one that matches your birth day.
Find your Day Master
You do not need to work it out by hand. Enter your birth date, time and place, and the calculator returns all four pillars along with your Day Master and five-element balance.
